Match notes
Squigbowl matches with the Bombers have so far always been torrid affairs. Last time, Blonde Bombers - Children of the Corn (SquigBowl 4, SquigBowl 4) the Bombers aimed at getting their score in the record book, but failed when a fireball swept three players off the pitch and cause a turnover. This time no wizards were involved, and Soul Harvesters were considerably faster than Children of the Corn, so instead of a near-constant rush against a single endzone the game became a full-scale shootout.

The bombers started off early by using some weather magic to turn the pitch soggy and soft, to the effect that the coach lost two coins in the muddy ground before calling the Harversters as the winners of the toss. The Harvesters elected to receive, and the Bombers tried some new setup which turned out to mean the wrong player got to kick, and it went out of bounds. This led to the blitz against the usual ballcarriers being quite ineffectual as the ball was touchbacked to Jack Wolfskin who swiftly ran down the first goal of the match.

Disappointed with the soggy ground which would cause less casualties, the Harvesters used a spell of their own on the already unstable weather and managed to summon a blizzard to freeze the pitch back to normal firmness. Reduced visibility would also limit the Bombers to short passes, something they would compensate for by throwing more of them. A lot more. In fact they would throw so many completions that they singlehandedly beat the old record of seven completions (4-3) in one game (Holy Sisters of Thyr - Puff Puff Pass (Season 2, round 6)). More on that later.

The first pass, however, failed, and spilled the squig to the ground after some advances down the pitch to the right had been made. The Harvesters quickly swooped around the Bomber screen to threaten the ball, but the Bombers rallied nicely and after some swift moves Torya Anewone managed to have and pass the squig to Hanna Solo who had moved up to wait in the endzone.

Meanwhile the fans in the stands had taken to throwing snowballs at each others to keep themselves warm (and a fire was being built in the Harvesters dugout to try to thaw out Alfred Bernhard who would spend several more drives in a KO state. At the kickoff the fans started pelting the players with snowballs for fun, and one enterprising fan got the idea to add a rock to a snowball hitting Lil' Liz

In the flurry of action that followed, the Harvesters Jack Wolfskin scored another lightning quick touchdown, the details of which eludes me, meaning it was 2-1 at turn 5/4, halfway down the first half. A lightning bolt on Hanna Solo slowed down the next Bomber score, but couldn't prevent it entirely and just as the whistle blew to end the first half Vicious Virgin made it 2-2, with the squig having been suspiciously quiescent all the time.

For the second half, it seems as if the Harvester had thawed the squig along with their zombie, because it was considerably more lively this time. The Bombers still managed a trademark offense, even if they had to regather an escaped squig, but the Harvester offense nearly went completely nutsack as the squig escaped just when Lich Tremulus was supposed to walk in the score. It took valuable time to regather and in the end emerging star Javeed had to step in and save his team by equalizing to 3-3.

With the Bombers once more receiving and the clock on short time the Harvesters realized they had to pull out all the stops to even manage a draw, and they were very close to succeeding. Still, "close but no cigar" is how the saying goes, and a blitz to make some vital room, followed by a handoff to Rosalie Ann who quickly rushed up and quickpassed to Hanna Solo who got loose from her marker to score, the latter parts all happening so quickly that the squig didn't even have to react, made it 4-3 and left the Harvesters with only just enough time to add a completion of their own to the new league record of nine completions (8-1) in a single game.
